Rosa Franziska Maier

Rosa Franziska Maier is an Austrian musician, born in 1997 and raised in Graz. She regularly performs both as a soloist and as an ensemble musician, whereby chamber music and interdisciplinary projects are particularly important to her. She recently released a series of music videos featuring solo guitar works of the 20th century.

The Austrian guitarist gave her first solo concert at the age of 11 at the Musiksalon Erfurt in Graz. In 2012 she made her debut as a soloist with orchestra at the Mumuth concert hall of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, and played as a soloist in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein. Outside Austria, she has performed in the Czech Republic, Italy, Liechtenstein and repeatedly in Germany. She has been organizing the concert series Saitenansichten since 2022, has multiple solo and chamber music projects planned in Austria, Germany and Greece, and her new solo CD is scheduled for release in 2024.

As a winner of  numerous scholarships and competitions, she was awarded the first prize a total of eight times at the Austrian youth competition Prima la musica, and won her first international competition at the age of 11 (Brno CZ, 2008). After winning the first prize at the International Guitar Festival Rust in 2009, she recorded in 2011 her first CD, un.sueno.en.la.floresta, with the recording studio records.v4m (Vienna). Her competition succes was followed by multiple scholarships from the City of Graz and the international guitar festival LIGITA, among others.

Rosa Franziska Maier took her first music lessons at the age of three and started guitar only one year later. She was a student of Elisabeth and Heinz Irmler at the Johann-Joseph-Fux-Konservatorium Graz, after which she was accepted at the young age of 15 in the class of renowned Italian pedagogue Paolo Pegoraro at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. In 2023, Rosa Franziska Maier completed her instrumental studies in guitar with distinction at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with the famous Uruguayan guitarist Álvaro Pierri. She has also received valuable musical guidance from the Italian lutenist and guitarist Luciano Contini, the Austrian guitarist Armin Egger, the renowned violin teacher Regina Brandstätter, the pianist Johannes Kutrowatz, the Polish conductor Marta Gardolińska and the internationally renowned guitarist Tilman Hoppstock.

In addition to her profession as a musician, Rosa Franziska Maier is particularly interested in philosophy, literature and art, specifically in the works of Arthur Schnitzler, Paul Celan, Simone de Beauvoir and Wasilli Kandinsky, all which have greatly influenced her own artistic work.

Besides her artistic activities, Rosa Franziska Maier teaches at the VIMAC – Vienna International Music & Art Center, is a substitute teacher at the Musikschule Wien and is currently studying Instrumental and Vocal Pedagogy at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
